Venezuela’s acting President Delcy Rodríguez has said that U.S. forces gave her and other senior officials 15 minutes to comply with their demands or face death after the U.S. captured former President Nicolás Maduro, according to a leaked video and recordings.

In the recording, Rodríguez said the threats and blackmail from the United States were constant from the first minute Maduro was taken into custody.

She claimed that U.S. forces told her, her brother Jorge Rodríguez and other officials they had only a short time to respond or they would be killed if they refused to cooperate.

Rodríguez also said the remaining Venezuelan leadership was first told that Maduro and his wife had been killed, not kidnapped, and that this added to the pressure they faced.

Some analysts and critics say the United States is acting like a mafia state in its pressure tactics, while others argue Rodríguez may be shaping the narrative for political reasons.
