India and UAE in Active Missile Sale Negotiations

India is currently in advanced discussions with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to export the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, according to a report by journalist Hammad Kahlun via Scandinavian News Finland.

If concluded, the deal would mark one of India’s most significant defence export agreements to date.

What Is the BrahMos Missile?

The BrahMos is a supersonic cruise missile jointly developed by India and Russia through the BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited joint venture a collaboration between India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Russia’s NPO Mashinostroyeniya.

The missile is capable of travelling at speeds of approximately Mach 2.8 to 3.0, making it one of the fastest anti-ship and land-attack cruise missiles currently in operational service anywhere in the world.

Strategic Significance of the UAE Deal

The UAE has been actively modernising and diversifying its defence procurement portfolio, reducing dependence on any single supplier nation.

An acquisition of BrahMos Supersonic missiles would significantly enhance UAE’s strike capabilities and represent a deepening of the India-UAE strategic partnership, which has expanded considerably across defence, trade, and energy sectors in recent years.

India’s Growing Defence Export Ambitions

This potential deal fits directly within India’s broader ambition to become a major global defence exporter under its “Make in India” defence manufacturing initiative championed by the government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

India has already finalised a BrahMos Supersonic export deal with the Philippines its first such agreement and has been in talks with several other nations including Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, and Vietnam.

BrahMos Export: Geopolitical Dimensions

Any sale of BrahMos Supersonic to the UAE carries notable geopolitical dimensions given the missile’s Russian co-development origin amid ongoing Western sanctions on Moscow following the Ukraine conflict.

It remains unclear whether the Russia-India joint venture structure of BrahMos Supersonic Aerospace would complicate or delay regulatory clearances for the proposed UAE transaction.

No Official Confirmation Yet

Neither the Indian Ministry of Defence, the UAE Ministry of Defence, nor BrahMos Supersonic Aerospace has issued an official statement confirming or providing details of the reported negotiations at the time of publication.

The report is currently unverified beyond the sourced claim and should be treated as a developing story.
