Turkish and Syrian forces have completed construction of a new floating bridge over the Euphrates River in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor province, the latest sign of deepening military cooperation between Ankara and Damascus.

The installation was finished on August 30, 2026, and replaced an earlier crossing destroyed by flooding.

Tรผrkiye’s ambassador to Syria, Nuh Yฤฑlmaz, announced the completion in a post on X, saying the bridge was built jointly by the Turkish Armed Forces and the Syrian army.

Syrian Defense Minister Murhaf Abu Qasra separately said the project was designed to ease the transportation burden for residents of Deir ez-Zor, a province that depends heavily on river crossings for movement and supply.

Second Joint Bridge Across the Euphrates

The August 30 bridge is the second such structure jointly installed by Turkish and Syrian military engineers in the same region.

An earlier Turkish-built floating bridge opened in July 2026 and has already carried more than 237,000 vehicles, according to Turkish officials.

The latest project followed the destruction of a predecessor crossing by flooding, which cut road access between two banks of the river in eastern Syria.

Yฤฑlmaz framed the cooperation in symbolic terms, stating that “the Turkish and Syrian armed forces are building the future together in peace as well.”
