Elias Rodriguez, the suspect in the killing of Israeli embassy staff members in the U.S. capital, has been formally indicted on federal hate crime and murder charges.

According to court documents unsealed on Wednesday, Rodriguez faces nine counts, including a hate crime resulting in death. Prosecutors stated the attack was calculated and premeditated, targeting the victims due to their identity and affiliation.

The indictment comes amid broader concerns about violent crime in Washington, D.C., with former President Donald Trump suggesting the potential deployment of the National Guard to restore order in the capital.
