India’s main opposition party, the Congress, has intensified its criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi following the Indian Air Chief’s claim of downing Pakistani aircraft during Operation Sendor.
Congress leaders questioned why the operation was halted on May 10 if, as Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha stated, five Pakistani fighter jets had been shot down.
Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh, in a post on X (Twitter), said the Air Chief’s remarks made it even more critical to know what pressure led Modi to stop the operation and “why he conceded so quickly.”
During the ongoing monsoon parliamentary session, opposition members, including Rahul Gandhi, repeatedly pressed the Prime Minister and other ministers over the destruction of Indian fighter jets.
However, neither Modi nor any government representative responded.
The Congress has also demanded clarification on former U.S. President Donald Trump’s claim that he mediated a ceasefire between India and Pakistan.
Last week, during a 16-hour parliamentary debate on Operation Sendor, Modi denied any foreign intervention, saying the ceasefire was mutually agreed upon after Pakistan requested a truce on May 10, following large-scale Indian strikes.
