US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin are scheduled to meet on Friday at a US air base in Alaska for high-level discussions focused on the Ukraine conflict.

This marks the first in-person summit between sitting leaders of the two countries in over four years. While anticipation is high, deep divisions persist between Moscow and Kyiv over their respective visions for ending the war.

The visit will also be significant for Putin — it is his first trip to a Western nation since the launch of Russia’s invasion in February 2022, and his first visit to the United States in a decade.
