Rhode Island’s beloved judge, Frank Caprio, who gained worldwide fame for his kindness in the courtroom, has passed away at the age of 88.

According to his official social media accounts, Caprio “passed away peacefully” on Wednesday after a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Caprio became widely known through viral clips showing him handling minor cases with empathy and humanity.

He often dismissed tickets or reduced fines, saying his courtroom was “a place where people and cases are met with kindness and compassion.”
