Beijing is preparing to host a grand Victory Day military parade on 3 September, commemorating Japan’s surrender in the Second World War. The event is set to become a platform for China and its allies to showcase unity in the face of mounting western pressure.
According to China’s foreign ministry, 26 heads of state and government will attend the ceremony. Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un will attend the Victory Day parade with President Xi Jinping, presenting a display of solidarity in the face of western pressure.
Notably, the parade will go ahead without participation from any major western leaders.
Significantly, the event will take place without the presence of any leading western heads of state.. The only exception among European Union nations will be Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico, who has confirmed his participation.
The parade, held against the backdrop of China’s expanding military influence, is being viewed as a symbolic show of solidarity among Beijing, Moscow, and Pyongyang.
