Canadian police announced Friday that the stabbing of an elderly Jewish woman at a grocery store in Ottawa earlier this week is being treated as a hate crime. Prime Minister Mark Carney called the incident an “outrageous assault.”

According to officials, the victim—aged in her 70s—was attacked by an unknown assailant while shopping in a store recognized for its large kosher section. She was hospitalized with injuries but discharged later the same day.
