One person has died and seven others, including police officers, were hospitalised following a gas leak at a restaurant in north-west Sydney.

Emergency services rushed to Haveli Restaurant in Riverstone around 9:15am on Tuesday after the owner reported concerns for welfare inside the premises.

Fire and Rescue NSW confirmed that two people were pulled from the building. A 25-year-old man was found unresponsive and, despite efforts by paramedics, could not be revived.

The cause of the gas leak is now under investigation. Authorities have sealed the site while specialist crews work to ensure the area is safe.
