Prague: Czech President Petr Pavel has urged NATO to adopt a tougher stance against Russia, saying that any Russian aircraft violating allied borders should be shot down.

Calling Moscow’s actions “extremely irresponsible,” President Pavel stressed that airspace violations are serious enough to activate NATO defence mechanisms.

“Such an aircraft should be destroyed. Russia will quickly realize it has crossed red lines. This is dangerous brinkmanship, but against aggression one cannot retreat. Russia behaves only within the limits we allow,” Pavel declared.

His remarks come amid growing regional concerns over Moscow’s escalatory tactics in the Baltic and Eastern Europe, raising fears of direct confrontation between Russia and NATO forces.

“Czech president’s warning adds urgency to NATO’s debate on countering Russian airspace violations.
