Norway scrambled its F-35 fighter jets to intercept a Russian Il-20 reconnaissance aircraft flying over

the Barents Sea, local media outlet Altaposten reported, citing the Royal Norwegian Air Force.

According to military officials, the jets were launched under a Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) mission.

Two Norwegian F-35s identified and monitored the Russian aircraft as it flew in international airspace north of Finnmark.

The Air Force confirmed that such interceptions are standard procedure whenever unidentified aircraft approach Norwegian airspace.

No violations or incidents were reported during the operation.
