More than 200,000 ultra-Orthodox Jews gathered in Jerusalem today, blocking major

roads and the main entrance to the city in a massive protest against mandatory enlistment in the Israeli military.

The protesters clashed with police and attacked journalists, demanding exemption

from military service on religious grounds. Authorities deployed additional security forces

to control the situation, as tensions escalated near the city’s central districts.

The demonstration marks one of the largest protests in recent months by Israel’s ultra-

Orthodox community, which opposes conscription, arguing that it conflicts with

their religious studies and way of life.
