Lithuania has officially announced that the Russian language will be completely removed from all driver’s license examinations starting January 1, 2026.
This decision marks another major step in the country’s broader policy to reduce Russian cultural and linguistic influence following rising regional tensions.
According to Lithuanian authorities, driver’s exams will continue to be offered in Lithuanian and English, while additional language options Spanish, French, and Polish are expected to be introduced soon to support foreign residents and ensure wider accessibility.
Government officials emphasized that the move reflects Lithuania’s long-term strategy to strengthen its national identity, enhance integration within the European Union, and minimize reliance on languages associated with past geopolitical pressure.
