The death toll from the storm in Tenerife, Spain has increased. On Sunday, a very strong wave hit a group of tourists standing near a seawater pool by the ocean. Today, authorities confirmed that five people have died in the incident.

According to officials, these seawater pools become very dangerous during storms because they are protected only by a small concrete wall, which big waves can easily cross.

AP reported that even though warning signs and barriers were already placed, some people still went close to the water. Once the wave hit, the victims were pulled into the ocean, and rescuing them was extremely difficult. The area under the pool has slippery volcanic rocks, giving nothing to hold onto.

Rescue teams continued searching despite strong waves. Authorities have warned the public to stay away from the coast during bad weather.
