Nobel Peace Prize winner and former political prisoner Ales Bialiatski has spoken about the situation in Belarus.

He said there is a war against everything Belarusian and against the country itself. People with different opinions are being arrested.

He added that pressure on Belarusian culture and on people who speak the Belarusian language is growing. He said the government is acting against its own people only to stay in power.

Bialiatski said the authorities cannot be changed by kind words or good intentions. Their position has not changed. He said the exchange of political prisoners is forced.

He also said the Belarusian government mainly wants economic sanctions to be lifted. They are not interested in improving the situation or allowing people to live freely and speak freely.
