Finnish border guards are conducting intensive training exercises near the Russian border as part of preparations for a possible armed conflict, CNN reports.
The drills are taking place beyond the Arctic Circle, close to Finland’s eastern frontier with Russia. Authorities say the exercises are designed to prepare for worst-case security scenarios, and Finland is making no effort to hide the seriousness of its planning.
Video footage released from the exercises shows border guards operating in harsh Arctic conditions, including moving through deep snow, carrying out patrols in dense forest terrain, and rehearsing responses to a potential armed invasion.
Finland, which joined NATO in 2023, has significantly increased its defense readiness amid heightened regional tensions. Officials emphasize that the training is defensive in nature and aimed at ensuring border security under extreme conditions.
The latest drills reflect Finland’s broader security strategy following rising tensions in the region, as previously reported by SNN News Finland.
