More than 100 million US dollars have been stolen from Swedish taxpayers by a group of Muslim Brotherhood–linked imams who ran private schools and kindergartens in Sweden. Many of those involved have now fled the country.
An investigation by one of Sweden’s largest newspapers, Expressen, revealed that the group took over one billion Swedish kronor (SEK) from school vouchers and welfare funds.
According to the investigation, part of the stolen money was used to fund sex clubs in Somalia and Thailand, luxury hotels, and political activities abroad.
One of the key figures is Abdirizak Waberi, a former Member of Parliament. He is accused of stealing SEK 12 million through fake IT invoices. Prosecutors say the money was used to finance sex clubs, luxury travel, and his own Islamist political party in Somalia.
Sweden’s Security Service (Säpo) had already identified several of the imams in 2019 as threats to national security. Among them were Abo Raad, Abdel Nasser El Nadi, and Hussein al-Jibury. They ran schools and preschools that sent tens of millions of kronor to Malta, private individuals, and extremist groups.
Many of these schools were later shut down, either due to extremist activities or economic crimes, similar to how criminal organizations are prosecuted for financial wrongdoing.
Prosecutor Henric Fagher said taxpayer money meant for Swedish children was instead used to support luxury lifestyles and radical Islamism, calling it a double loss for Swedish society.
