Berlin: Tens of thousands of residents in Berlin are facing a massive power outage for the second consecutive day.

Authorities have attributed the blackout to a fire at two high-voltage pylons, which police are investigating as a potential act of sabotage.

Berlin officials and the city’s grid operator have described the damage as extremely serious. A temporary power supply has been implemented, but the replacement of the main cables is expected to take longer than usual.

Full restoration of electricity for all customers is projected for Thursday afternoon, January 8.

Meanwhile, warming centers have been opened across the city. Police and emergency services are conducting door-to-door checks to ensure the safety of vulnerable groups,

including the elderly, hospitals, and social institutions. Despite these efforts, a large number of residents remain without electricity and heating.
