A Belarus-born official has been appointed to lead one of the world’s most secretive intelligence agencies — Israel’s Mossad.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has officially approved Roman Hoffman as the new Director of Mossad, one of the world’s most powerful and covert intelligence services. The Prime Minister’s Office has confirmed his appointment.

Roman Hoffman was born in Mazyr, Belarus, and later moved to Israel with his family in the early 1990s. After repatriating, Hoffman joined the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) in 1995, starting a journey that later shaped his intelligence career.

Although Mossad’s operations remain highly confidential, Hoffman’s appointment indicates that he has built an exceptionally successful and trusted career inside Israel’s security and intelligence establishment.

Leading Mossad is considered one of the most critical and sensitive positions in Israel, given its global intelligence operations, counterterrorism role, and strategic missions.

Hoffman will now oversee key responsibilities such as intelligence gathering, covert missions abroad, and national security operations. Analysts believe that his international background and long military service may bring a unique perspective to Israel’s global intelligence efforts.

His appointment comes at a time when regional tensions, cyber threats, and geopolitical challenges are increasing, making the role of Mossad’s director more crucial than ever.

Roman Hoffman’s rise from a Belarus-born immigrant to the top of Israel’s intelligence agency reflects both his professional excellence and Israel’s trust in his leadership.
