Gopichand Hinduja, the billionaire head of the Hinduja Group and Britain’s richest man, has passed away at the age of 85 after battling a prolonged illness.

Hinduja, who led one of the world’s most influential family-run business empires, topped The Sunday Times Rich List with an estimated family wealth of £35.3 billion built across sectors such as banking, oil, transport, entertainment, and real estate.

He began his career in 1959 by joining his family’s modest trading business, originally established in India and Iran in the early 1900s. Under his leadership, the Hinduja Group grew into a global conglomerate with operations spanning multiple continents.

Gopichand and his elder brother, Srichand Hinduja, relocated to London in the 1980s to manage the group’s international operations. His brother Srichand passed away in 2023.
