China has issued a strong warning to the United States, saying it will take retaliatory measures if President Donald Trump follows through on his threat to impose 100% tariffs on Chinese imports.
In a statement released by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, Beijing emphasized that it “will not hesitate to defend its national interests” and urged Washington to avoid actions that could “further destabilize the global economy.”
The warning comes as global investors brace for renewed trade war tensions, fearing market volatility and disruptions in global supply chains.
Economists warn that the proposed tariffs could drive up costs for consumers and strain international trade relations, especially as both countries face economic slowdowns.
Trump, however, defended his stance, calling the move necessary to protect American industries from “unfair Chinese trade practices.”
Analysts believe that if China retaliates with counter-tariffs, the world could witness a sharp escalation in economic confrontation between the two largest economies.
