Prague: Czech President Petr Pavel has urged NATO to adopt a tougher stance against Russia, saying that any Russian aircraft violating allied borders should be shot down.

Calling Moscowโ€™s actions โ€œextremely irresponsible,โ€ President Pavel stressed that airspace violations are serious enough to activate NATO defence mechanisms.

โ€œSuch an aircraft should be destroyed. Russia will quickly realize it has crossed red lines. This is dangerous brinkmanship, but against aggression one cannot retreat. Russia behaves only within the limits we allow,โ€ Pavel declared.

His remarks come amid growing regional concerns over Moscowโ€™s escalatory tactics in the Baltic and Eastern Europe, raising fears of direct confrontation between Russia and NATO forces.

โ€œCzech presidentโ€™s warning adds urgency to NATOโ€™s debate on countering Russian airspace violations.โ€
