Denmark has decided to purchase 16 additional F-35 fighter jets from the United States, bringing its total fleet to 43 aircraft.

The move is part of a broader $4.4 billion defense expansion aimed at securing Greenland and Arctic waters amid growing Russian and Chinese presence in the region.

The plan also includes the acquisition of two Arctic patrol vessels, multiple drones, and maritime surveillance aircraft.

Denmark’s military buildup in the Arctic and North Atlantic will be carried out in close cooperation with the Faroe Islands and Greenland.

A new Arctic Command headquarters will be established in Nuuk, along with an underwater cable connecting Greenland to Denmark for enhanced defense communications.
