El Salvador has recorded a dramatic turnaround in public security, marking one of the most significant reductions in violent crime seen globally.

In 2015, the country registered 6,656 homicides, with an annual murder rate of 106 killings per 100,000 people, the highest ever recorded worldwide at the time. The nation was widely considered the most dangerous country on the planet.

This year, however, authorities report only 78 homicides, with the projected murder rate expected to fall to 1.2 per 100,000 inhabitants.

The sharp decline reflects a major shift in national security conditions and places El Salvador among countries with the lowest homicide rates globally.

The transformation has drawn international attention, as the country moves from extreme violence to record-low levels of deadly crime within a single decade.
