Finland hosts first permanent NATO base in Mikkeli

Finland has reached a new milestone in its NATO membership with the opening of the country’s first permanent Alliance base.

On 1 September 2025, the Multi-Corps Land Component Command (MCLCC) was formally set up in Mikkeli, where it will operate alongside Finland’s Army Command.

The creation of this headquarters significantly boosts NATO’s footprint in Northern Europe and underscores Finland’s growing role within the Alliance’s joint defense network.
