Finland has dispatched a border guard unit to Latvia to assist in controlling the growing migration pressure along the Latvia–Belarus frontier.

According to officials, the deployment came at the request of the Latvian Border Guard, with Finnish teams expected to remain until 22 September. The unit will perform similar duties to their operations in Finland, focusing on strengthening border surveillance.

Latvia began increasing its border security measures in March, supported by Estonia and Lithuania. The Finnish Border Guard highlighted that illegal migration pressures have significantly grown this year in the region.

The Finnish Border Guard confirmed that its personnel have supported border security efforts in 20 European countries this year.
