Finland has announced that starting in 2025, every conscript will be trained in drone warfare. The training will include drone piloting, bomb dropping, detecting and stopping enemy UAVs, and basic repair skills.
Soldiers will first practice with small toy drones indoors before moving to advanced FPV drones used in real combat.
Military officials say they are learning directly from Ukraine’s battlefield experience and adjusting those tactics for Finland’s cold and difficult terrain.
Army Commander Pasi Välimäki said that buying large systems like Bayraktar drones would not suit Finland’s defense needs, as they would remain unused in hangars.
Instead of creating separate drone units, Finland plans to integrate drone skills into every military group, making UAV knowledge a standard part of training for all soldiers.
