A French court has issued international arrest warrants against former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad along with six senior members of his past administration.

The warrants are linked to the 2012 bombardment of the city of Homs, during which a French photographer and an American journalist were killed. French investigators have classified the incident as both a war crime and a crime against humanity.

Assad, who was ousted from power in December 2024, later fled to Russia, where he was granted political asylum by President Vladimir Putin.
