Global Coal Use Reaches Record High in 2024

A new report has revealed that global coal consumption reached an all-time high in 2024, underscoring the ongoing challenges in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Despite an exponential increase in renewable energy production, the report indicates that carbon emissions continue to rise, fueled largely by Asia’s growing demand for energy and slow progress in transitioning away from fossil fuels.

Environmental experts have called the findings “deeply concerning,” warning that the world remains far from meeting its climate goals.
