In a major scientific milestone, Type 1 diabetes is finally showing signs of long-term control something researchers have been trying to achieve for a century.

Scientists at Vertex Pharmaceuticals have created a groundbreaking cell therapy called VX-880, which helps the body produce its own insulin again.

The treatment works by replacing damaged insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. For people who spent their entire lives depending on daily insulin injections, this therapy has brought a new sense of freedom and hope.

Early results are remarkable: some patients have gone more than two years without needing insulin, and 10 out of 14 treated individuals have shown strong and lasting improvement.

Experts describe this development as a truly historic moment, marking the most significant progress in Type 1 diabetes treatment in 100 years.
