Latvia is considering removing railway tracks that connect to Russia due to ongoing security concerns along its eastern border.

President Edgars Rinkēvičs and Prime Minister Evika Siliņa announced the plan after their weekly government meeting, according to local media outlet LSM.

Officials say that dismantling the tracks is part of several security measures currently being studied. The proposal will be discussed with leaders of all Baltic states to ensure a coordinated regional approach.

This move highlights Latvia’s proactive approach to border security as tensions with Russia continue in the region. If implemented, removing the railway lines would reduce potential risks and strengthen the country’s defenses.
