Libyan Owner Releases Lion on Egyptian Laborer, Wave of Anger on Social Media
A viral video on social media has sparked intense grief
and anger in Libya and Egypt. The video shows a Libyan citizen releasing a lion onto an Egyptian laborer working on his farm, allegedly for amusement and entertainment.
In the video, the Egyptian laborer can be seen in a state of extreme fear and panic as the lion pins him down with its paws and begins biting him. The worker’s face clearly shows terror, and he later stated that he suffered pain and injuries. Meanwhile, the farm owner was seen recording the scene while laughing, telling the laborer to stay quiet so he could continue enjoying the lion’s “fun,” completely disregarding the fact that the beast could severely injure or even kill the worker.
These scenes, allegedly filmed in Libya, have opened the floodgates of severe condemnation on social media platforms. Public circles have described it as a “violation of human dignity” and “playing with human lives,” demanding punishment for those involved.
Egyptian blogger Mohamed Abdelgalil wrote, This is neither a joke nor a game, but rather a method of humiliation and terror—perhaps as a display of power. As if this young Egyptian’s dignity has no value.
Another Egyptian blogger, Mohanad Al-Ateeq, commented, Even if it was meant as a joke, such an action is unacceptable. Can anyone truly trust a wild animal? This scene is extremely degrading, and authorities must take action against behavior that toys with human dignity.
Libyan activist Amira Al-Ghawwi stated, This incident reveals moral degradation and mistreatment of foreign laborers. Foreign workers often live in unequal conditions, facing exploitation and humiliation just like this Egyptian youth.
The widespread outrage has called for legal action against the farm owner, with many demanding justice for the exploited worker and stricter regulations to protect laborers from such inhumane treatment.
