The Lithuanian government is reportedly weighing a complete suspension of rail freight from Belarus, which could include fertilizers, petroleum products, and other key exports still passing through its territory.

If implemented, the decision would mark another major setback for the government of Alexander Lukashenka, whose export routes have already been severely restricted by Western sanctions.

Just a day earlier, Minsk unexpectedly declined to reopen the Benyakoni–Šalčininkai border crossing. In response, Lithuania has begun gathering data on the financial losses faced by local transport companies, with plans to demand compensation from Belarus.

On Friday, Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė visited the Belarus border to personally review the situation and inspect the long queues of stranded trucks.

She later shared photos and videos from the site on Facebook, stating that she wanted to “see the reality on the ground” and explore possible support measures for affected carriers.
