Northern Territory Police have confiscated more than 240 firearms from an 81-year-old Kakadu National Park firearms dealer following multiple alleged breaches of firearms regulations.

The man, Dave Lindner, a former park ranger who famously captured the 5.13-metre crocodile “Sweetheart” in 1979, has had his firearms dealership licence suspended. He now faces two charges and has been ordered to appear before the Jabiru Local Court on October 28.

Alongside the firearms, police also seized a range of firearm parts during the operation.

Acting Superintendent Alex Brennan described the seizure as complex, highlighting the importance of proper firearm storage.

“Officers within the Firearms Policy Unit are currently working to record each firearm and carry out a full audit on everything seized,” he said.

Lindner, who has managed a buffalo farm in Kakadu since 1989, became well-known after helping capture Sweetheart, a crocodile that had been menacing fishers on the Finniss River. The crocodile has since been preserved and remains a popular exhibit at the Northern Territory Museum and Art Gallery.
