Palestine Convoy of 500 Activists Crosses Into Turkey
The Palestine Convoy, a land-based solidarity mission that departed Bosnia and Herzegovina with more than 500 participants, has crossed into Turkey after passing through Albania and Greece.
The journey began with an international assembly in Sarajevo on 25 July, followed by a rally and commemoration in Srebrenica on 26 July.
Part of the convoy departed Srebrenica with 17 buses, dozens of vehicles and ambulances, on a land journey expected to last nearly 20 days.
Organizers describe it as an international civil initiative bringing together more than 500 activists, rights advocates and parliamentarians from around 30 countries.
Palestine Convoy Route Through the Balkans
Participants travelled through Albania and Greece before entering Turkey through the ฤฐpsala border crossing on 30 July.
The group, made up of civil society representatives from more than 20 European countries, said its stated aim is to draw attention to human rights violations in Palestine and the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
By early August, the convoy had advanced further into Turkish territory. Hundreds gathered outside the Melike Hatun Mosque in Ankara to welcome the group, according to Press TV.
Separately, TRT World reported the convoy had arrived in Ankara after travelling thousands of kilometres from Bosnia.
Who Is Organizing the Convoy
Organizers say the effort has a defined leadership structure. Spokesperson Hรผseyin Durmaz, a medical doctor and civil rights activist, previously took part in the Global March to Gaza and the Global Sumud Flotilla, while Tunisian activist Fatma Ezzahrae El Hbibi is leading international coordination.
Bosnian organizer Ilday Husoviฤ has handled delegation logistics inside Bosnia and Herzegovina, and French activist Sรฉbastien Michelot is involved in broader mobilization efforts.
Volunteers joining the convoy are required to register, undergo an interview, and complete security and operational training, and leadership has said participants must remain nonviolent and comply with local laws in every country they pass through.
