Warsaw: Poland scrambled its aircraft on Saturday to protect national airspace after Russia launched a massive attack on Ukraine with more than 600 drones and missiles, striking areas close to the Polish border.
According to the Polish armed forces, both Polish and allied NATO aircraft were deployed to secure the skies, while ground-based air defence and radar systems were placed on the highest state of alert.
At 03:40 British time, Ukraine was under nationwide air raid alarms following reports from the Ukrainian air force of incoming Russian strikes.
By 05:00 British time, Polish and NATO aircraft concluded the operation after Russia halted its strikes. Officials confirmed the actions were preventive measures aimed at protecting Polish airspace in regions adjacent to the targeted areas in Ukraine.
