Finnish President Alexander Stubb declared that Russian President Vladimir Putin has failed in all his major goals in the Ukraine war.

According to Stubb, Putin’s initial plan was to take control of Ukraine in just four days, but the war has now dragged on for four years. Instead of dividing the West, Putin’s actions have made Western nations more united than ever.

He also pointed out that instead of reducing NATO defense spending, former U.S. President Donald Trump increased it to 5%. Meanwhile, Ukraine has become “far more European and not Russian at all,” Stubb said.

The Finnish president stressed that Russians have historically endured extreme hardship both during and before the Soviet era to a degree that the West struggles to understand.

Stubb added that the war may only end when Putin can no longer afford to pay the $80,000 “maternity packages” given to families of dead soldiers, or the bonuses provided for military service.
