The water level at Madhopur Headworks in Indian Punjab is climbing rapidly, causing bridges to overflow. Authorities have warned that the flow is now only two feet lower than the devastating 1988 floods, which inundated around 9,000 villages and forced over 3.4 million people from their homes.

Persistent downpours in Himachal Pradesh have increased the flow of the Sutlej, Beas, and Ghaggar rivers, placing Punjab under renewed flood danger.
