Rights Groups Urge End to Selling of Girls in Afghanistan

Human rights activists say that in some tribal and conflict-affected areas of Afghanistan, girls are treated as financial assets, leading to practices such as forced marriages and the selling of girls and the Selling of Girls.

Rights groups describe this as a long-standing social problem linked to poverty, lack of education, and weak legal protection for women.

Activists argue that such practices violate basic human rights and must be ended through strong laws, enforcement, and social reform, similar to how harmful traditions in other parts of the world were abolished through legal action.

They stress that these practices do not represent all Afghan society, but remain a serious issue that requires urgent attention from authorities and the international community.
