MOSCOW A nearly five-kilometer-long bridge is

under construction between Russia and North Korea across the Tumen River, Newsweek has reported.

Satellite images reveal that work on the Russian

side has already progressed about 110 meters into the river, with several support pillars in place.

On the North Korean side, six bridge piers have been completed, and foundations for two more are being prepared.

According to North Korea expert Frederik Spohr, the new bridge could allow Russia to transport

military supplies overland from Pyongyang, helping it avoid sanctions targeting cargo ships.

Experts also warn that the link will make it harder to monitor trade between the two countries.
