Saudi Arabia has reportedly carried out an airstrike on a UAE-linked weapons shipment at the port city of Mukalla in southern Yemen.

Riyadh publicly stated that the shipment originated from the United Arab Emirates and was intended to fuel the ongoing conflict in Yemen.

According to Saudi officials, the weapons were meant for the Southern Transitional Council (STC),

a group seeking to establish a separate state in southern Yemen, often referred to as “South Arabia.”

The STC also claims certain territories along Saudi Arabia’s border.

The strike highlights rapidly rising tensions between Saudi Arabia and the UAE,

two former allies now increasingly engaged in a proxy struggle for influence in the region.
