At least seven people were killed and nine others went missing after a rope snapped at a bridge construction site in northwest China early Friday, state media reported.

According to People’s Daily, 15 workers and a project manager were on-site when the rope broke at around 3:00 am on the bridge spanning the Yellow River in Qinghai province.

The bridge, part of the Sichuan-Qinghai Railway, is described as the world’s largest-span double-track railway continuous steel truss arch bridge. It is also China’s first railway steel truss arch bridge to cross the Yellow River, the country’s second-longest river.
