On India’s Independence Day, Sikh protesters staged a demonstration outside the Indian Embassy in Washington.
Carrying Khalistan flags, they chanted slogans such as “India Down Down” and “Murderer Modi.” The group also tore down the Indian flag and threw its pieces in front of the embassy gates.

Indian diplomatic staff, alarmed by the protest, contacted police, who maintained security at the site for several hours.
Dr. Sandhu, leader of the Khalistan Council, announced that a Khalistan referendum would be conducted in Washington the following day, with thousands of Sikhs expected to participate.

He further declared that the movement aimed at liberating Punjab from India to establish an independent Khalistan state.
