Former Indian cricket captain Sunil Gavaskar has clarified that playing against Pakistan in the Asia Cup is not a matter of personal choice but a compulsion for Indian players.

Speaking in defense of the cricketers, Gavaskar said that athletes should not be unfairly criticized for facing Pakistan, as such decisions are entirely controlled by the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) and the government.

“If the government has made the decision, then why target the players?” Gavaskar questioned, stressing that players simply follow orders rather than making political calls.

The remarks come amid ongoing political tensions surrounding India Pakistan cricket ties, where every bilateral or tournament clash draws heated debate both on and off the field.
