Sweden’s King Carl Gustaf XVI has criticized the growing demands at the UN COP30 climate

summit in Brazil, questioning calls for Western nations to pay higher climate taxes on emissions.

“How much are we actually supposed to pay?” the King asked, representing Sweden at the summit.

His remarks have stirred controversy among climate activists.

He argued that all nations should take responsibility according to their capabilities,

instead of expecting wealthier countries to shoulder most of the financial burden.

King Gustaf also pointed out that EU nations produce only 6% of global emissions yet face the

highest costs under proposed climate agreements.

“Europe produces only 6% of emissions, but the rest of the world is much, much worse,” he said.
