Kabul In a disturbing incident, the Taliban have reportedly beaten and lashed an Afghan

woman using what they called a “Sharia belt.” Her only so-called crime was teaching young

girls at home, an act the Taliban has outlawed since banning female education beyond sixth grade.

Witnesses say the woman was dragged from her home in front of neighbors and publicly

punished as a warning to others.

The incident has drawn global outrage, with human rights organizations condemning the

Taliban’s brutal enforcement of its repressive gender policies.

Since retaking control of Afghanistan in 2021, the Taliban have banned women from schools,

universities, and most jobs, sparking international condemnation and isolation.

Human rights advocates are urging the United

Nations to take immediate action to protect Afghan women from such violent abuses.
