Kabul The Taliban government has firmly rejected Washingtonโs reported intention to retake control of Afghanistanโs Bagram Air Base, cautioning the United States to reflect on the lessons of history before making such moves.
The statement came after reports that U.S. officials were considering regaining influence over the former American stronghold. In response, not only did the Taliban issue a warning, but China also voiced strong opposition.
On Friday, Suhail Shaheen, the Talibanโs ambassador in Qatar, directly addressed a recent statement by former U.S. President Donald Trump.
โIf they want good relations with us, investment in Afghanistan, trade, and diplomatic ties, we will welcome them,โ
Shaheen said. โBut if they have motives based on greed, they should read Afghanistanโs history from the British-era invasions to the recent American attacks. They will learn a lot from it.โ
