The Trump administration has announced a new policy offering $3,000 in cash and a free ticket to undocumented migrants who voluntarily return to their country of origin by the end of 2025, according to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Officials say the initiative is aimed at reducing the high costs associated with detention and forced deportations. Earlier this spring, DHS stated that the average cost of detaining and deporting one undocumented migrant is approximately $17,000.
According to Reuters, around 622,000 people were deported from the United States in 2025, highlighting the scale of ongoing immigration enforcement efforts.
The voluntary return program is expected to play a key role in the administration’s broader immigration strategy, as authorities seek more cost-effective alternatives to traditional deportation measures.
The Trump administration’s latest immigration measures follow earlier enforcement actions reported by Scandinavian News Finland.
