Turku University in Finland has suspended four students during the last two years for academic misconduct, as the institution adopts stricter measures against dishonesty in exams.

Petri Sjöblom, who heads academic affairs at the university, explained that the incidents were linked to students using smartphones or other electronic devices during online exams. He noted that while the overall number of incidents remains relatively small compared to the student population, the misuse of artificial intelligence (AI) alongside traditional plagiarism has emerged as a growing concern.

With the start of the new academic year in August, the university has enforced tougher penalties for cheating, signaling a stronger commitment to maintaining academic integrity.
